CRITERIA

ECPA debuts the ECPA Top Shelf Awards to celebrate the best book designs in Christian publishing.  Covers are judged by top designers in the industry for their merits in:

• appropriateness for the market
• level of conceptual thinking
• quality of execution
  

Online submission form available August 12-16, 2013. Top Shelf covers will be announced and celebrated at ECPA's annual PUBu.

PROGRAM RULES

Submitting Companies and Content

All publishing companies submitting entries must be ECPA members in good standing.  The Christian content in each entry must not be contrary to the ECPA Statement of Faith.

Publication Date

Eligible books must be originally published by an ECPA member anywhere in the world and released for pubic sale between June 2012 - August 2012.

Book Formats

Books eligible for entry are defined as "bound volumes", either case bound, paper bound or spiral bound. Bible entries can include bot front cover and/or front matter package design.

ENTRY PROCESS

Online entry form will be available for submission August 12-16, 2013. [Information from the entry form will be duplicated for program promotion and celebration.]

Entry quantity: Any ECPA member publisher, imprint or division of a larger publishing house may enter as many titles as it wishes.

Entry fee is $79 each for 1-4 cover entries and $59 each for 5 or more cover entries.  [The entry fee is to accompany the submission form and is non-refundable. Email instructions for payment will follow receipt of submission form.]

Cover image file to accompany each title submitted should be 300 dpt in .tif or .jpg format that is actual size.

EVALUATION PROCESS

Program judges will evaluate each entry on the basis of its appropriateness for the market, level of conceptual thinking and quality of execution.

Ten TOP SHELF covers will be chosen from the entries to represent the best covers of the Christian publishing industry for 2013.

Winners will be announced at ECPA's annual PUBu event and featured in a printed Annual, designed by Faceout Studios, and distributed to the industry's designers and design professionals by print program sponsor.

Sponsored by market leading design firm Faceout Studio, these awards are managed by principal Torrey Sharpe and judged by a panel of three industry experts.

Faceout Studio is a market leading design firm that services a broad range of national and international publishing clientele. The studio focuses on brand design, brand identity systems, book packaging, photography, film production and product development. Over the years their work has been recognized by Communication Arts, the AIGA, Print magazine, Eye magazine, STEP magazine, Graphis, CMYK, Graphic Design: USA and the national American Advertising Federation. Their work has also been published in various books, most recently from Rockport, Harper Collins, Springer and Barcelona-based Mao Mao publications. They have been invited to speak at various events hosted by the AIGA, AAUP, and the Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau as well as many northwest art schools.  Past judging experiences have included the Independent Book Publishers Association, the American Association of University Presses and the Beauty of Books in China, sponsored by the Shanghai Press and Publication Administration.  www.faceoutstudio.com
