Current Projects - Beijing Book Fair
Each year, GPA represents Christian publishers at the Beijing International Book Fair. In addition they conduct the Beijing Roundtable, which connects Christian publishers in Asia and beyond to publishing resources and contacts in the West. In the past five years that GPA has represented Christian publishing in China, encouraging inroads have been made into China’s openness to Christian literature. The 2005 & 2006 Beijing Book Fairs were a major step forward in positioning ECPA publishers with the massive potential for publishing and distributing Christian content in China. We anticipate an even bigger event in 2007 with more publishers participating. Our program will include seminars, speakers, bookstore tours, face time with Chinese publishers, translators, and cultural experiences.
The Board of GPA, along with ECPA, view this event as one of the major ministry opportunities confronting our industry today. GPA underwrites approximately 2/3 of the total cost of the fair in order to lower the financial barrier so that every ECPA member can have the opportunity to participate.
GPA collaborates with ZDL Books in Beijing to create this event and to display ECPA member titles in order to help Christian publishers penetrate this huge market.
In September 2006, twenty people representing fifteen ECPA member companies exhibited 121 titles at the book fair. In addition, in an offsite venue dinner and face to face time was provided with Chinese Christian publishers unable to attend the book fair.
Goal:
To take advantage of a relative loosening of governmental restrictions on the introduction of Christian content into China by exposing Chinese publishers to Western Christian titles and their publishers.
To provide a venue in which western Christian publishers and mainland Chinese publishers can network with the goal of getting Christian books translated, published and sold into the bookstores of mainland China.

China’s Growing Market for Publishers
Global Publishers Alliance represents publishers at 2007 Beijing International Book Fair
It is no great secret that the changing face of the Chinese economy has created new opportunities for trade with the West, but many Christian publishers may not be aware that there has been a relative loosening of government restrictions on the introduction of Christian content into China. In order to maximize the potential of this favorable turn of events, each year Global Publishers Alliance (GPA) represents Christian publishers at the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF). This year’s fair, held August 30-September 3, provided ample evidence of the growing possibilities for Christian publishers in China.
