Article II - Membership

Taken from the ECPA Bylaws

Section 1. Qualifications for Voting Members: Voting membership in this Association is open only to publishers of evangelical Christian Literature located in North America.

For the purposes of these Bylaws the terms “evangelical Christian literature” or “Christian literature” mean any book, Bible, curriculum, magazine, periodical, electronic literature or other literature which promotes, encourages, confirms, defends or establishes the individual in his or her Christian belief of evangelical Christianity in general, and is not in conflict with the Association’s Statement of Faith (see Article XI).

For the purpose of these Bylaws the terms “publisher” or “Christian publisher” mean any proprietorship, partnership, trust, firm, corporation, or corporate division or subsidiary engaged primarily in the business of publishing evangelical Christian literature which involves a financial investment, operates from a regularly established location, has the customary overhead responsibilities of a publisher, including rental or ownership of a place of business, salaries and other publishing costs, and which maintains an ongoing program of publishing evangelical Christian literature. Also, two or more distinct publishing entities each qualify as voting members even if they are related through common ownership or parent/subsidiary relationship. Further, such entities that maintain an ongoing program of publishing materials deemed to be in conflict with the Association’s Statement of Faith are not eligible for membership.

Section 2. Qualifications for Nonvoting Members: Individuals, proprietorships, partnerships, trusts, firms or corporations not qualified for voting membership may qualify as nonvoting members.

Classes of nonvoting membership shall include:
a) Affiliate Members—entities engaged in fields of business, or professional activities related to the interest and activities of the voting members;
b) Associate Members—entities engaged in the publication of evangelical Christian literature outside North America or in languages other than English;
c) Individual Members:
  i. Persons who are employed in the publishing industry by an organization that does not qualify for voting membership in the Association, and who personally subscribe to the Association’s Statement of Faith (see Article XI); or
  ii. Persons who are employed by a voting member but are not the member’s designated representative (see Article IV, Section 1), whose nonvoting membership is endorsed by the designated representative, and who personally subscribe to the Association’s Statement of Faith.
d) Alumni Members—individuals who have been active in the Association in past years and who are no longer involved in evangelical Christian publishing or are retired.
e) Other classes of nonvoting members that the Board of Directors may from time to time create.

Such nonvoting members shall pay dues and have such other obligations as the Board of Directors may from time to time establish. No notice of any meeting of the voting membership of this Association need be given to any nonvoting member.
