More Information
Imagine this. . . You go to your local bookstore and begin to browse, but something is wrong. The titles sound odd. You begin to read and the situations described in the books are hard to understand-they're from another country. None of the books are written by local authors, people who know and understand the culture you live in and the issues you face.

That's what happens time after time throughout Asia, Africa, East/Central Europe, and Latin America. In many countries, fewer than 10 percent of Christian materials on the shelves in Christian bookstores are from local writers. Readers are searching for something that speaks to their lives, their needs and their joys. But it's not there.

This is where MAI steps alongside.
MAI equips and nurtures talented men and women with a passion for producing Christian literature for their own people. Since its founding in 1985, MAI has equipped local Christians in 63 countries on 5 continents. As a result, we've seen budding writers developed, publishing houses grown, periodicals begun and books and magazines produced that speak to the hearts of readers in their own languages.

We advance the Gospel by training Christians to produce literature that nurtures the church and attracts readers to Christ. We believe God uses the written word to transform lives.

Our work includes:

* Customized on-site training and consulting for publishers, editors, writers, designers, distributors and booksellers
* The triennial LITT-WORLD international training conference
* Train-the-trainer workshops that equip print media workers to share their skills
* Words for the World and Trainer Network newsletters, in addition to training handbooks
* Internships at publishing houses for print media professionals

MAI depends on the gifts of individuals, churches and foundations. In the US, MAI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency and a member in good standing with ECFA, ECPA and EPA. In the UK, MAI is a member in good standing with Global Connections.
