JOB PURPOSE

In collaboration with the Associate Publisher and Christian Living publishing team, which includes editing, inventory procurement, marketing, sales functions, the Senior Acquisitions Editor will acquire and edit 12-16 new titles annually.  The incumbent possesses (1) savvy knowledge of the Christian book market and its segments, (2) mastery of the editorial development, (3) excellent networks and relationships among literary agents as well as the mainline church, (4) a solid understanding of the nuanced markets across direct to church and trade markets and (5) an ability to produce high quality books on time, which meet sales and expense budget expectations. 

 

Education/Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in English, religious studies, or a closely related field and at least five (5) years of religious publishing experience in acquisition, editing and/or marketing Christian non-fiction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·            Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·            Excellent interpersonal, relational and negotiating skills

·            Sound and nuanced understanding of the religious and church landscape in the U.S. including its segments and important differences between cohorts

·            Clear sense of the market, within the religious environment, who buy and read inspirational non-fiction

·            Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

·            Excellent editorial skills including content organization

·            Intermediate proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel preferred)

·            Thorough knowledge of distribution networks for the sale of Christian books

·            Working knowledge of congregational structure

·            Ability to use and continue to learn digital processes for production of content

  ·         Some travel required, with number and duration of trips to be determined, as needed
