Job Title: Senior Discovery House Content Editor

Work Team:  Discovery House Publishing

Job Code:  Exempt, fulltime


Position Summary:

Edit Discovery House manuscripts for accuracy, organization, flow, appropriate style, sound biblical exegesis, clarity and conciseness of language, word choice, and appealing presentation.


Essential Functions:

Edit at all levels—developmental, line, and copy—and work directly with authors on edits; create abridged, revised, and updated language editions; review proofreader corrections and covers; create style sheets for each project.

Work with executive editor on product development, identifying needs of Our Daily Bread Ministries and prospective products to fill them. This may involve creating the product, writing, compiling, adapting, and/or researching with special attention given to content within Our Daily Bread Ministries (e.g., sermons, radio transcripts, classroom lecture notes).

Serve on publishing and editorial committees as requested and review book proposals for acquisitions meetings.

Edit copy packages and marketing pieces. Provide writing and editorial assistance for marketing and Our Daily Bread Ministries publications as requested.

Assess Discovery House content for larger ministry use, including creating excerpts and choosing material for social media. Collaborate with the video or audio teams on projects with media components.


Study or Knowledge and Experience:

B.A. degree in English, Publishing, Journalism, or equivalent experience.

Strong editorial skills with a focus in line and copy editing.

Ten or more years’ experience in a book publishing setting with progressive responsibilities.

Excellent written communication skills, with understanding of target audience.

Solid knowledge of Scripture and evangelical world required.

Strong knowledge of theology and the Bible.

Timeliness – ability to meet deadlines.

Exceptional attention to detail.

Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and Christian Writer’s Manual required.

Familiarization with the CBA market and product offerings preferred.

Strive to live a life consistent with biblical principles and demonstrate continued growth and spiritual development.
