What's in a good cover? ART + SCIENCE

ECPA to Present Two Book Cover Awards:
one to honor design excellence and one to recognize its effectiveness in the marketplace

Submissions accepted November 6-13

ECPA has added a design component to this year's book cover award program by partnering with Faceout Studio in the creation of a new award recognizing a cover's design merits.  In addition, the program will continue to evaluate a cover's effectiveness in the marketplace utilizing the latest RISC consumer research as criteria.

Entries will be judged in two distinct programs:  one award that continues the valuable evaluation of a book cover's effectiveness based on the RISC research of understanding consumer buying motivations -- the science -- and one award evaluating book covers on their design merits (appropriateness for the market, level of conceptual thinking and the quality of the execution) -- the art.  The judging panel for the DESIGN award includes design experts Charles Brock, Archie Ferguson and Chris Gilbert. The judging panel for the RISC Research award is led by Rick Hamm, Director of RISC|Ameriscan Research since 1990.

An educational webinar will be held on November 6 providing attendees with information based on current RISC research and introducing the new Design Award, discussing the current design trends and the impact of excellence in cover presentation.  This webcast is free to all interested industry professionals, but REGISTRATION is required.

The submission period is November 6-13 for books published by ECPA member publishers from June 2011 to September 2012.

Winners will be announced in three categories (based on the size of your publishing house) for both tiers of the program and announced via webcast in December and then promoted throughout the industry.
