ECPA Launches New Business Intelligence Program with Christian Consumer Demographics & Behaviors Report
"It's really about consumer behavior. So we're talking to people that have interesting things to say about how consumer behavior is changing..."
- Tod Shuttleworth, Senior Vice President and Group Publisher, Thomas Nelson (in an interview with Book Business Magazine)
ECPA has published an exhaustive look at the Christian book consumer as well as book purchasing data from the Christian consumer segments as identified by Christianity Today. The 2008 ECPA Consumer Demographics & Buying Behaviors Annual Report is intended to serve the ECPA membership and anyone interested in the Christian book consumer with a detailed look at who is buying Christian books, where they are buying them and what motivated their purchase (based on 2008 data).
This 20-page report is available to ECPA members for $399 ($599 for non-members). Those who order the 2008 U.S. Book Consumer Demographics & Buying Behaviors Annual Report co-published by Bowker PubTrack and Publishers Weekly will receive a $200 discount on the ECPA Christian Consumer report (only $199 for ECPA members; $399 non-members) if they pre-order the Bowker/Pub Weekly report by August 30.
"A report such as this will provide publishers and other interested entities with a good jumping off point for a better understanding of their core end consumer" says ECPA President and CEO, Mark Kuyper. While this will deliver an excellent overview of the Christian book consumer landscape, ECPA is using this report to launch a quarterly reporting program that will take a more tactical approach in tracking Christian book buying and selling activity.
CATEGORY-LEVEL QUARTERLY REPORTS
Utilizing Bowker's Pubtrack Consumer and Pubtrack Christian databases, ECPA is also offering subscriptions to quarterly category-level reports focusing on both consumer buying behaviors and retail sales activity. Each report will focus on one of the following eight book categories:
- Autobiography & Biography
- Bibles
- Biblical Studies & Reference
- Christian Fiction
- Christian Life
- Diet & Health
- Kids
- Pentecostal & Charismatic
Each category is offered as an individual subscription and will deliver one report each quarter. Reports will include updated consumer information relative to Christian book purchasing as well as up-to-the-minute trends, market share and bestseller reports utilizing retail sales data. Subscriptions are $1000 per category/per year and are only available to ECPA member publishers. Current Pubtrack Christian subscribers can pick up to three categories at no cost and will receive a 25% discount off additional categories. Pubtrack Christian subscribers should contact Michael Covington to place their order.
