Book publishers may be focused on fall releases, but it is summertime for book buyers and readers. The ECPA Top 50 overall bestsellers list for August, reflecting July POS data compiled by NPD BookScan, reveals that readers are focusing on familiar titles in the summer months. There are no new releases in the Top 10, although two books released in June are included—one by an athlete and one by a musician. Believe It by Super Bowl quarterback Nick Foles (Tyndale House) is at #6, and Once Upon a Farm by Rory Feek (Thomas Nelson) is at #8.

Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis (Thomas Nelson) continues to dominate the ECPA’s Top 50. We’ve been talking about this book since its release in February, and for good reason. In addition to its success in the Christian book market, the book by “lifestyle expert” Hollis has consistently been at or near the top of Publishers Weekly’s nonfiction bestsellers list, and as of this writing is #1 on Amazon.

There are two new releases in the Top 50. They are both fiction titles, and they are both by Beth Wiseman (Zondervan). An Amish Quilt debuts at #13, and Amish Celebrations is at #42.An Amish Quilt leads theTop 25 Fiction bestsellers list, followed by The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn (Frontline/Charisma) and The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers (Tyndale Publishers). In case you haven’t heard, Rivers will be appearing at The Christy Award™ Gala in Nashville on November 7.

For the past few months ECPA has been working with NPD BookScan to curate an accurate Top 50 Spanish book list and a Top 25 Spanish Bibles list. The August Spanish lists reflect a new data stream from more distributors and publishers. The new data reveals that Barbour Publishing continues to make a strong showing in both lists. For August, Barbour has the #1 Bible, the Reina Valera 1909 Santa Biblia. In the Top 50 Spanish books list, Barbour has 12 titles.

The #1 Spanish book overall is No Es Por Vista by Cash Luna (Vida Publishers). In addition, four authors have three or more titles in the Top 50 Spanish: Joyce Meyer (FaithWords), Rick Warren (Vida Publishers), Sarah Young (Grupo Nelson), and Stephen Kendrick/Alex Kendrick (B&H Espanol).

Representatives from the Spanish publishing community will soon be gathering for Expolit 2018, being held August 9-12 in Miami. ECPA is grateful for the expertise and leadership of Peter Cerra, president of the Spanish Evangelical Publishers Association (SEPA) and Senior Director of Sales and Marketing for Editorial Portavoz, a division of Kregel Publications. Peter will be a special presenter at ECPA’s C-Suite Symposium, held September 23-25 in Sedona, Arizona.
