ECPA announces the top bestsellers of 2018

The results are in for the TOP 100 BESTSELLING BOOKS AND BIBLES FOR 2018 produced by ECPA member publishers, and based on POS data provided by NPD Bookscan.


Congratulations to Rachel Hollis and Thomas Nelson for writing and publishing the #1 book of 2018, Girl, Wash Your Face. A true “crossover” title, the book was the #3 bestseller overall in the general market.


Rounding out the Top 5 books on ECPA’s Top 100 bestsellers list for 2018 are The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman (Moody Publishers), Jesus Calling by Sarah Young (Thomas Nelson), Bob Goff’s Everybody, Always (Thomas Nelson), and Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover (Thomas Nelson).


It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way by Lysa TerKeurst (Thomas Nelson) comes in at #6. Three other titles by TerKeurst are at #7, #11, and #89, while editions of Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling and Jesus Always occupy eight spots in the Top 100.


Joyce Meyer (FaithWords) places five titles in the Top 100, followed by Mark Batterson (Zondervan and WaterBrook), Gary Chapman (Moody), and Max Lucado (Thomas Nelson) with three titles each.


There are eight authors with two titles each in the Top 100: Bob GoffChip and Joanna Gaines (Thomas Nelson),Tim Tebow (WaterBrook), Priscilla Shirer (B&H Publishing Group), Christine Caine (Zondervan), Thom Rainer (B&H), Francine Rivers (Tyndale and Multnomah) and Paul David Tripp (Crossway).


Of the Top 100, 36 books were released in 2018; another 23 were published in 2017; with 11 released in 2016.


The last three winners of ECPA’s Christian Book of the Year are in the Top 50. The 2016 Book of the Year, Priscilla Shirer’s Fervent (B&H Publishing Group), is at #19; Shaken by Tim Tebow (WaterBrook), the 2017 winner, is at #42; and the 2018 Book of the Year, Jesus Always by Sarah Young, comes in at #8.




Six fiction titles populate the Top 100 overall. The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers (Tyndale) and To the Moon and Back by Karen Kingsbury (Howard) are the two most popular fiction books at #26 and #44 respectively.The Masterpiece is the #1 title in the 2018 FICTION BESTSELLERS list, followed byTo the Moon and Back and The Shack by William Paul Young (Windblown Media). All told, Kingsbury has five books in the Top 25, followed by Rivers with three. Beverly Lewis (Bethany House) and Jonathan Cahn (Frontline/Charisma House) each have two titles in the Top 25.




The two top-selling books in the 2018 JUVENILE BESTSELLERS list are The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones (Zonderkidz) and The Beginner’s Bible (Zondervan). These same two titles occupied the same positions in the 2017 Top 25 Juvenile list.




In the category of 2018 BIBLES BESTSELLERS, six of the Top 25 are NIV (Zondervan), five are KVJ (several publishers), and four are NLT (Tyndale). Three of the Bibles in the Top 25 for the year are for children or teens, four are journaling Bibles, and three are “gift” Bibles.




The 2018 SPANISH BESTSELLERS list features five titles by Joyce Meyer (FaithWords), four by Sarah Young (Nelson Grupo), three by Stormie Omartian (Harvest House-Unilit), three from Stephen and Alex Kendrick (B&H Espanol), and three by Rick Warren (Vida Publishers).
