Archive-Based Content Curation and Workflow Management
Sean Harrison, Senior Editor, Tyndale House Publishers

Sean HarrisonEvery publisher has a different set of needs and requirements for how they set up their content curation and workflow management. In this dynamic, interactive session we will discuss how publishers can enhance their current systems with a central content archive, using available technologies and down-to-earth practices. Some of the things we will talk about include:

  • Using version-control (archive) software to curate all content.
  • Validating all curated content to ensure that it is ready to use.
  • Providing a web-based interface to the archived content, enabling full-text search and content review.
  • Transforming archived content to (and from) many formats, including XHTML (the format of the web and ebooks) and InDesign ICML.

The session will include an extended opportunity for Q&A and for discussing the needs of your particular team. After attending this session, publishing teams will have a clearer idea of how they can build on and improve their publishing workflow and content curation systems.

Sean Harrison has been editing Bibles and developing publishing technology solutions for over 17 years. Sean has designed, implemented, and managed systems to archive validated content, convert content among formats, produce ebooks and content-data packages, script widely-used tools like Word and InDesign, and develop content-based web applications. Sean loves Bible publishing, he loves the technologies of publishing, and he loves helping his colleagues enjoy their work better. He also enjoys photography, writing, and playing music with family and friends. @saharrison

There and Back Again: A Workflow Tale
Joshua Tallent, Chief eBook Architect, Firebrand Technologies

Joshua TallentThere is a certain magic about finding the perfect print and eBook workflow within an organization. Since every publisher comes at this issue from a variety of directions, it can sometimes feel like there are no solutions that will actually work for your specific issues. When you add multiple formats (EPUB 2, EPUB 3, Kindle, DPS, etc.) into the mix, and consider the different types of content that need to be handled, the path to success can look pretty dismal.

This two-part, interactive session will provide you with the practical advice you need to slay your workflow dragon and enjoy the gold buried deep in the mountain of success. In the first part of the session, Joshua will give an overview of the most common source formats, workflows, and target formats, with an emphasis on the types of content Christian publishers create. In the second part of the session, we will ask you to describe your workflows, including any frustrations you have in getting digital content created, and give you targeted advice on how to get the process working for you. This session will inevitably touch on other issues like distribution, outsourcing, enhanced functionality, and more. Feel free to bring your questions, frustrations, and ideas, and we will work together to find solutions and to help your message reach the Body of Christ.

Joshua Tallent, the Chief eBook Architect at Firebrand Technologies, has been an eBook developer since 2002 and is a well-known eBook expert and teacher.
